No Verdict Yet In DeppHeard Trial; Jury To Return Wednesday
Fairfax, Vol. (AFP) - Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Hardy ended a second day of jury debate on Tuesday without a decision on defamation charges for their troubled and unhappy marriage.
A seven-member civil jury heard the final argument Friday and thought about two hours before heading to the long Memorial Day weekend. Then on Tuesday the jury thought for another seven hours. The trial is set to begin on Wednesday in Fairfax County.
He is suing Deep Hard for 50 50 million, accusing him of defaming her in a 2018 article in which he described himself as a "public figure who represents domestic violence." Hard Pirates of the Caribbean has filed a $ 100 million counterclaim against the star after her attorney called her allegations fraud. Everyone blames a friend for ruining their career.
Evidence during the six-week trial revealed some gruesome details of their brief marriage. Hard testified that Depp had raped her more than a dozen times physically or sexually. During the testimony, Depp testified that he had never hit Hard, that he had abused her, and that he had physically assaulted her on multiple occasions.
During the closing discussion, both sides of the jury stated that the verdict in their favor would restore the lives of their clients.
On Tuesday, Depp's attorneys asked Judge Benny Azcaret to order the jury to ignore the final arguments of some of Hard's attorneys.
Depp's attorneys said in their written application that Hard's attorney told the jury that his decision in the case "would send a message to every victim of global domestic violence." Hard's attorney, Benjamin Rothenburn, told the jury that the verdict against Hard "sends the message that no matter what you do as a victim of violence, you always have to do more."
"No matter how honest you are about the flaws and failures of a relationship, you have to be perfect for people to believe you. Don't send this message," Rothenburn said.
Depp's attorneys argued that Rothenborne's argument was wrongly focused on a larger social goal than the jury was tasked with resolving the issue.
Depp's attorneys said "Mrs. Hard's attorney's arguments do not provide sufficient urgency for the jury to rule on the case" on the grounds of emotion and prejudice and that the jury needs special guidance to deal with the crime. "
The judge told Depp's attorney in court that he would not consider the appeal as the case is now in the jury's hands.
