South Florida Gets Soaked As Potential Tropical Storm Prepares To Cross State

Heavy rain, high winds, and floods hit South Florida Saturday morning, dropping 11 inches since Friday, and cars are parked on the streets of Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
The airline canceled more than 500 flights to Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports, including some on Saturday mornings, according to FlightAwar.
Miami firefighters tweeted a video of cars in the water, saying they were assisting six drivers of high-speed water vehicles.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended flood warnings in Miami and Fort Lauderdal until at least noon.
“It rained between 6 and 11 inches. There could be 2 to 5 inches of precipitation in the alert area, "the NWS office in Miami said.
More than 10 million people in South Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas remain under surveillance or warning of a tropical storm, even though the first round of tropical potential is sparsely organized on the state's west coast.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says it may not be the first hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season before it sweeps through Florida on Saturday.
"Concerns are expected to escalate into a tropical storm off the east coast of Florida (Saturday night), with a slight tonight-to-Monday system increase in the western Atlantic, which is far from Florida," the NHC said.

As of 8:00 am, the center said winds were blowing 45 miles southwest of Fort Myers and blowing 40 miles per hour.
