According to NBC News, Gottfried, who died at 2:35 pm ET on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, died of "recurrent ventricular tachycardia due to type II myotonic dystrophy."

The Washington Post elaborated on Gottfried's cause of death and stated that he died of "muscular dystrophy".

According to Daily Variety, he is survived by his wife, Dara Kravitz, and two children, Lily and Max.

Although today is a sad day for all of us, keep laughing out loud in honor of Gilbert.
