Kevin Costner Shares Special BTS Moment From Filming Field Of Dreams With Ray Liotta After His Death

Kevin Costner Recently Extends Tales From Yellowstone Tour 2021

This week, movie fans were deeply saddened to learn of the death of actor Ray Liotta. At 67 years of age and a man with multiple on-screen roles that could easily be described by the word "creative," it was shocking to hear the news of his death. It's hard to compare him to those who knew Liotta personally, including those who shared his screen in those famous roles, like Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams.

Costner took to Instagram to say he was "devastated" after hearing the news of Liotta's death. Liotta played Joe Jackson Without Shoes in Field of Dreams, and Costner posted a short hint from the first scene for the film's cast. He also revealed that famous moment, where Costner barely wrote the ball that was hit by Liotta.

I love the way Kevin Costner calls his wild off-road dive "action." This makes him seem more professional than a guy trying to avoid getting caught climbing the line. However, it gives you a new perspective on the scene. They could have easily ended the scene and tried again if Costner wasn't supposed to be downstairs, but Costner plays the character and the final moment remains in the film. The fact that this shot is real is one of those dreamy behind-the-scenes moments that was revealed before, but may still be new to many.

Field of Dreams is a fairly early film in Ray Liotta's career, so it's probably where many movie fans see the actor for the first time. From there, he appeared in hundreds of other movies and TV shows. But his role in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas is perhaps the only show on par with Field of Dreams in terms of popularity with the general public.

Both films appeared over the next several years and at least demonstrated Ray Liotta's purpose as an actor in playing different characters. One is a father in romance, the other a monster. But we like both, perhaps because Ray Liotta is good at both.

Kevin Costner says Liotta will always be "Schoeles Joe Jackson" to him and that's probably the case for a lot of fans. It's just one of those movies that everyone loves, which is why Field of Dreams now gets the TV-loading treatment, which is why so many people feel so bad about losing one of their stars. Liotta was the second Field of Dreams star to die in less than a year, with actor Art Le Fleur dying last fall. Overcoming death and loss is at the heart of the Field of Dreams. Maybe this movie will give it a different, more emotional feel now that Shoeless Joe is truly gone.
