Florida Sees One Of Worst Outbreaks In History Of Meningococcal Disease
After killing seven homosexuals and two sexes in the state in the last six months. As the events of the LGBTK Pride continue for months, the CDC urges people to get rid of meningitis.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating one of the worst cases of meningococcal disease in gay and two-sex men in U.S. history, and vaccinations are needed after at least seven people died in Florida this year.
Meningitis is caused by bacteria in close contact with saliva or by prolonged coughing. Symptoms may include headache, fever, vomiting, and nausea.
Speaking at NPR's "Here and Now" session, Jill Roberts, an epidemiologist at the University of South Florida, said the symptoms could change rapidly.
“Obviously some people can die from an infection within 24 hours, so this is very serious, and we see that 70% of people who do not receive any treatment can actually die from the infection,” Roberts said. .

According to the Florida Department of Health, 46 people have been infected in the past six months.
There are many issues in the Orlando area, 13 in Polk County and one in Hillsboro.
There are three in Broward, three in Miami-Daden and two in Palm Beach County.
Anyone can be infected with the virus, but the seven deaths reported by CDC in Florida on Wednesday were gay and bisexual.
CDC, which hosts a number of high-profile events during the month, urges Florida gay and lesbian men to get rid of meningitis.
"Given the Florida epidemic and the number of booming events in the state in the coming weeks, it is important to vaccinate gay and bisexual people in Florida and their health care providers traveling to Florida about the MenACWY (Meningococcal Bacteria A, C) vaccine, W and Y vaccine," he said. Jose said. R. Romero, Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
CDC also emphasizes the need for routine MenACWY vaccine for people living with HIV because they are more likely to be infected with meningococcal bacteria.
