Valerie Bertinelli Explains How Her Weight Is Protecting Her Amid ‘heartbreak
Valerie Bertinelli is open about her difficulties with her body image.
During a Thursday appearance with Hoda and Gina, Bertinelli, 62, admitted she hasn't controlled her weight since she finished her book, That's Enough: Learning to Love The Way I Am Today, which came out in January.
"I look at myself on screen and try not to judge myself so harshly because I know I still carry that weight because now it protects me," she told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on the show. . . "Because I've been through so many experiences. So much heartache. There are so many crazy things going on in my life right now.
Bertinelli noted that once you are "inwardly and emotionally healthier," it will be easier for you to lose weight.
Although she said she takes better care of her body by eating less alcohol and sugar and more veggies, her body still looks the same because it "needs to be protected" from her emotional stress.
Bertinelli said that everything changed for her when her father died in 2016.
“It was snowball after snow. More things happen to me, but I'm not the only one.”
During the coronavirus pandemic, Bertinelli separated from her husband, Tom Vitale, before filing for divorce from Vitale in May.
She said these fights taught her that she is "emotionally stronger" than she thinks and she deserves better.
One thing I realized is that she is a tireless worker. However, she "rarely" completes herself, because she sometimes thinks that she is lazy.
"I've been told many times how lazy I am," she said. ...but it was just a voice in my head that was already telling me that. He just said, 'Oh, look, right.' You are lazy. But I know that when people start telling me about all the things I've done, I'm like, "Oh, that's why I'm tired." I'm not lazy, I really like to relax when I rest.
The story continues
To focus on her blessings, Bertinelli said she lists the things she is grateful for as soon as she wakes up in the morning.
"Yes, it's hard now," she said, "but when it gets dark, you can start to see the light around you." “And then you can see that there are good things in everyone's life. And that gratitude we must feel, and gratitude is the degree to which we must rise to achieve joy, no matter how difficult it is, no matter how challenging, no matter how desperate it is We feel it sometimes, there is always something beyond what we ought to be. Thankful.”
