Chiefs 53man Roster Projection Following Preseason Week 1
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Chicago Bears in the first week of the 2022 NFL Preseason. This is the first time we've seen all of Kansas City's new additions this season play in a game. The roster continues to be very competitive and that was evident in the first week of the preseason. However, the difference between Chicago's early adopters and late adopters was also stark.
Andy Reid and Brett Wiech want the players to make things as difficult as possible before the final roster announcement is made later this month. The first round of progressive NFL roster cuts will take place on Tuesday, August 16 at 4:00 p.m. At that point, the majors and other major league teams must cut 90 to 85 players for the season.

Here's the final 53-man roster for metrics:
Out: Shane Busley and Dustin Crum
Ideally, I'd like to find a way to put Buechle on the 53-man roster. Casey doesn't want to fire Hein because of the $3.2 million cap. If he waits for Bushel, he risks being caught by the other team for a loss. I don't know if Buecele or Henne have much trade value, so trading either of them may not be an option. Executives may risk Buchlet and agree.
Out: Ronald Jones, Derek Gore and Tyne Fleet-Davies.
No change here from my original prediction of 53 people. Neither Ronald Jones nor Derek Gore performed well enough in training camp or the preseason to earn a spot on the roster. Barring any harm, this looks like a team heading into the season.
Out: Jordan Frank and Matt Bushman.
IR: Blake Bell
I'm afraid the team won't get bad news about Blake Bell's TE injury, which upon further investigation doesn't look good at all. They have good depth at the tight end position, but I'm not sure it's necessary to run four tight ends without a healthy bell.
Out: Cornell Powell, Corey Coleman, Josh Gordon, Jerrion Ealy, Aaron Parker, Omar Bayless, Gary Jennings and Devin Gray.
I feel like guys like Powell, Coleman and Gordon will get opportunities in the remaining two preseason games, but can they show enough opportunities in those games? From what I've seen so far, none of the three have won the competition they're listed on. Watson worked with the first-team offensive line during the first week of the preseason, as well as the second and third teams. Fontan can play on special teams and is good on offensive tackles.
Outs: Roderick Johnson, Mike Caliendo, David Steinmetz, Evin Krzezarczyk and Vitaly Gurman.
Keanu: Lucas Niang
During our pre-training camp scouts, I cut Reiter and put Johnson. I may come back to this in a few weeks, but for now I'd prefer an extra line driver. Also, I'm not sure Kinnard is any good beyond a player who hides and hides all season. He looked like a fifth-round pick in the first preseason game (and that's okay). I wouldn't hate it if the Chiefs decide to sign an assistant, especially if Lucas Niang starts the season on the waiting/puppy list.

Occupation (?): Taylor Stallworth.
I'm leaning towards the fact that Kansas City's deep defensive team could be the deepest team this year. According to our pre-retirement predictions, Taylor Stallworth is ahead of Saunders. Right now, I think Stallworth could be a player the Majors trade.
Released by: Joshua Kaidoh, Azur Kamara and Austin Edwards
With the addition of Dunlap, this team is getting a little more competitive. That puts Herring over Kaido for what could be the final spot on the 53-man roster. I give the advantage to Herring after the first week of the preseason. However, this could easily change after a few more releases.
Outside: Jermain Carter and Mike Rose.
In my first stint, I only had five linemen. Lee and Cochrane are two new additions this time around. I liked what I saw with both players in the first week of the preseason, both on defense and on special teams. Free agent signing Jermaine Carter is a missed opportunity, but I think there will be a tight battle for the final spot between him and Cochran.
Outside: Lonnie Johnson, DiCaprio Bootle, Brandin Dandridge and Chris Lammons.
When I first arrived, Nazi Johnson was still on the safety list and Lonnie Johnson was on the 53-man roster. I feel they give every opportunity to young people to find a place for themselves. Something veterans like Looney haven't done yet is to stand out from smaller competitors.
Outs: Zane Anderson, Devon Key and Nasser Greer.
Bush this time in the security team. He played 37 defensive snaps (56%) and seven special teams snaps in the first week of the preseason. The only difference I see is that Zane Anderson will return from a shoulder injury and perform well in the next two games.
There are no changes here. However, Justin Reed has proven to be a good defensive option.
